July 6, 2024: When You Can, then Cannot get er done

I’ve had to squelch my rallying cry, “Get ‘er done” because I can no longer ger ‘er done. It’s a sad state of affairs. I had hoped that my injury, a tear between the hip socket and hip, was getting better. In fact, I was cautiously optimistic.

I am no longer optimistic. A rainy day, so I went to the hotel and worked. I didn’t think that there would be much to do. I first stopped at a local thrift store and picked up some books, after putting them in small boxes. I then went to the hotel and began working – sorting books, moving books, categorizing books. Others did come and give an assist, but there was then even more work to do because I had to deal with the books they cleaned.

12 boxes total added to the other 12 boxes that came in last week.

At the day’s end, I assisted Pete and Robert in getting books ready to put in a new bookcase site, the hotel gaming room.

Afterwards, I went to distribute books and put up fliers at Vagabond Blues, the Valley Hotel, and Turkey Red. Right after I got out of the car, I felt my hip seize up. I had to bend over to walk. I kept walking and was able to straighten up. I got the fliers up, returned to the car, put one leg in the car and shook out the other. I could then again walk. Go figure.

As an aside, Vagabond Blues is where we used to have our bookcases. A children’s artwork exhibit now graced the walls in the hallway. I guess the message is clear – having the bookcases in there is a thing of the past. I get this sense that the powers that be didn’t like us having the bookcases there. Their attitude is much like that of the VCRS recycling center staff. They are all suspicious of free enterprise endeavors.

Ahh, but the BLBP board is a persistent lot. We now have four bookcases in the Eagle Hotel, and the books are going. We are doing something remarkable there.

As far as my leg goes – I’m going to take it easy and hope for the best. That it’s been raining and continues to rain makes it easy to reconcile the fact that riding any of the horses is a bad idea, maybe with the exception of Raudi because the saddle that I am using fits her and fits me.

The problems that I am facing right now, with my hip and with saddle fit feel to me to be irresolvable. I don’t know what to do about either. I’ll give the hip issue to the end of the month, and if its not better, go to an orthopedic surgeon. Maybe she or he can do laser surgery.

Chin up I repeatedly say, chin up. Things right now can only get better.

I put up fliers in Vagabonds, then put fliers up in Turkey Red.
