It really is summer now. The birds are quiet because they’re nesting.
Today, temperatures were in the 80s. I weeded the upper garden in the heat. I do not like to weed, and so the heat made this a onerous task. Pete, he puttered away in the garden all afternoon and cheerfully. He got the beets and carrots in the lower garden. And he actually seemed happy about doing this.
I had to admit, he did a lovely job, planting the beets and carrots. Last year I planted carrots, and nothing came up. This year I planted kale in the upper garden. Already, the poor plants are looking a bit parched.
We put plants in the hoop house before we left. The aloe plants took a heat beating – they turned from green to brown. I hope that being back in the house will rejuvenate them.
It’s very hot on the east coast and Midwest. It makes me wonder if it’s going to get hotter here. Temps in the 80s is enough heat for me.
The competitive trail ride is going to be the last week in July. I have two more weeks than I thought to get ready for this. I signed up to ride Tyra fra Tuskast. I’m going to make sure that I ride her every day, most likely in the mornings.
I will work on project stuff in the afternoons or evenings.
Today, I took Tyra for an evening ride. The bugs were bad, but they would have been worse had I not dosed her with bug dope. I wish that the organic spray worked, but it does not. I have to go with the nasty carcinogen that has DEET in it if I am serious about keeping the bugs away.
Ahh, I took Tyra on Tin Can. Now I have ridden this trail hundreds of times before, so I should know it intimately. There is this part of the trail where it becomes less distinct. I lost my way here and ended up going up a steep hill – one with brush and logs. Tyra, she was okay with this because, well, she loves an adventure.
