April 1, 2023: April Fools’ Day

People in Alaska must be a very serious lot because there was no talk about April Fools’ day jokes in the circles that I inhabit. In fact, it was not even mentioned that it was April 1. Well, it was a bit colder than it’s been; however, the sun shone brightly. And there was daylight well after 8:00 p.m. so I was able to get Hrimmi out for a ride and the dogs out for a walk.

So it may well be that at least around here that striking a balance may be weather-related. All that time spent inside, dinking around (mostly reading) can now be spent outside (mostly riding horses).

Hrimmi did wonderfully, was nicely forward and tolted some and trotted quite a bit.

Zach recommended we keep cleaning Raudi’s wound because it is still pussy around the edges. Raudi is really ready to be done with the whole thing. When Pete cleans her wound, she shifts her weight to her left leg and with her right leg she indicates that she is considering doing an

all-out kick. She has not done this yet, in fact I have never, ever seen her kick. But she is now saying “enough!”

Hrimmi does have a spot of scratches above her right heel bulb. I was told that I need to keep it clean and debride the scabby area.

I need to get going on cleaning saddles and bridles.

I need to again to clean the goat pen.

I need again to clean the chicken pen.

Just now we are beginning breakup. The winter poop that was buried in snow has not yet surfaced. Pretty soon I’ll be dealing with this and as well with moving water out of the pen into the spillway. As busy as I am, I will find time to do this.

As busy as I am, what a phrase.

Yesterday we picked up a truckload of books from Title Wave and unloaded them at the Meeting House, and yesterday Kaelyn picked up a truckload of books from Title Wave and this morning unloaded them at the recycling center.

It’s looking like more and more that we are getting books from the Anchorage source. This afternoon I sorted through and organized the nonfiction down on the bookcave table. Monday I will sort through and organize the nonfiction down on the bookcave table, that is after Pete goes and gets the latter load from the recycling center and drops it off at the Meeting House.

I’m now being more honest than I want to be. This is it: my workload is dependent upon the number of books that I have on hand to deal with. And so, it’s far less work, categorizing and distributing one load of books as opposed to two. Duuh. It’s a lot of fun for everyone, going through the boxes and pulling out these damn treasures. But ultimately, I am the one that has to make sure that they end up in the hands of appreciative readers.

As busy as I am, what a phrase.
