March 14, 2023: Moving Right Along

I often wished and in fact I still wish that I was a sheepherder. I’d have just enough sheep that I’d know them personally, and two border collies. I’d have a horse that I’d ride when taking the sheep out for fresh grass. And I’d either have a small building or a covered cart that I’d live in.

I would not see people very often. The sheep would have a nice warm barn to stay in during the winter, and I would have my indoor place.

Actually, I’d really like to be a goat herder. I think, although I may be wrong, that goats are smarter and more inquisitive than sheep. I suppose I’d have to milk the goats, although I am not sure. The goats would not have to be shorn.

My life would be far simpler than it is now. It used to be simple – I haven’t even had the time to backtrack and figure out how it got so complicated.

Today, for example.

This morning, I talked with Logan, our videographer, about the video. He clarified a few things that the BLBP board is concerned about. We are going to make a series of two minute videos and turn this into a longer documentary. I felt good after our conversation because both he and I are on the (ahem) same page about the work that’s to be done. This is an instance in which the writer’s and the videographer’s sensibilities are pretty much the same. I’m relieved.

Once again, I had to get to town at an early hour, so as to pick up books at the Meeting House to take to the Senior Center. I didn’t do a good job of selecting fiction. I went downstairs to the senior center library a few times where I had some fiction and brought some books from there, upstairs. And they went.

I ran into Loretta, the Palmer Senior Center librarian--she said that I can give her an assist stocking books. I don’t know how much time I’ll have, but I will be able to provide the library with books.

The story with the Palmer Public Library – recall that the roof collapsed – is that they have found a place for a temporary library. It’s my hope that when the Palmer library moves out that we can move in. I also wonder how they are going to set it up. They might also want some of our books.

Today I had a cadre of assistants – Lois and Pat cleaned the children’s books, and Kayleen (the new BLBP board member) assisted me in sorting the nonfiction books that Pete and picked up yesterday from Kids Kupboard. We got the job half done. This means we have half as much yet to do. I very much appreciated the assistance.

I spent the remaining portion of my workday shlepping books from upstairs to downstairs. And I also shlepped boxes. I did not finish what I set out to do – I never do any more. Welcome Alys, to the wonderful world of work.
