February 28, 2023: Dental Whoas

The storm that was predicted is here. As I write this, it is on its way out. A lengthy squall – winter is now like a patient with pneumonia, on his/her/their way out. There will not be a memorial service. We’ll bury the corpse and welcome spring.

And tomorrow will be March 1. In like a lion, out like a lamb. Not quite a lion. I may go outside and take a few photos and then take more at the month’s end.

I had Pete take me to the dentist this morning. Me, as anxious as I have ever been, focusing on the swirling snow on the highway. Mesmerizing. Much like watching the snowflakes come at the window on a dark night. I liken the latter to being like moving at warp speed through the galaxy.

There are several galaxies, or so I’m told. The universe is so vast that we can’t comprehend it. If we saw what size we are in relation to this galaxy, we would see ourselves as being less important. It is because we see ourselves as being so self-important that we fear death, the point at which we become one with the universe again.

We fear the pain that precedes going through the portal. And we fear leaving here and losing our narrative stance.

Me, hey, another trip to the dentist. This morning I realized that I no longer remember all the details of my dental history. This bothers me. I’d like to be able to say this was done and this was done, and this was done . . . instead I can now only provide the very big picture. I have had five teeth pulled, the first being removed when I was 14, the second being removed when I was in my twenties. I had a Maryland Bridge put in where my rear molar used to be when I was 30 or so. It wore out and was replaced. I had a bridge put in where my front tooth used to be when I was in my twenties. Teeth moved. My bite changed. I had another tooth removed 10 years ago. I had a bridge put in. I had for some time had a dental retainer, which wore out. My teeth moved some more. I wore plastic retainers for two years. I had two more teeth removed last year. The dentist took the bridge out to make way for the side-by-side implants.

And so, I have had, count ‘em, five teeth pulled. If I hadn’t gone back in time I would not have refamiliarized myself with my dental history. The above is amazing accurate.

My dental history will soon be updated. I’m going to have three crowns put on the implanted posts. After this I’ll wear retainers for a while.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I still believe I have good teeth – I mean to say, that the ones that are left and I are on good terms.

I am now in less pain that I was this afternoon. Hoping for a sunny day tomorrow.

Next: 60. 3/1/23: Spinter
