October 22, 2023: Unraveled

Now this is a great title for a book. It would be about a knitter who is accused of stabbing her husband with a knitting needle. It had her DNA on it. She was sent to prison and was supposed to be there for life. However, she escaped, using a knitting needle to open several locks.

After being in prison for 50 years (she was then 80) new evidence emerged that indicated that she was not the one who killed her husband. Rather, it was another knitter, a woman who he had an affair with. She used one of her own needles then took one of the wife’s needles and put it in place of the other needle.

This is what the first half of the book is about. The second half of the book is about the former convict’s attempts to live in a far different world than the one she left. She joins a knitting group, which turns out to be a saving grace because not much has changed in the world in 50 years, knitting-wise.

Yes, that’s unraveled. I wish I had the time to risk writing this book. I say risk writing this book because with the limited time I have to write, I can’t take chances.

I had to take it easy this morning because as soon as I got up, I had back and leg pain. I presumed that I’d end up spending the day in the house, which was unacceptable given the fact that while it was cold, it was sunny.

So I did some mind/body work – and vowed to keep doing this. And I moved some book piles. Then I went out and took Hrimmi, with Shadow on her back, around the loop. The saddle pad that I had on the horse slipped up at the far corner of the loop, so I walked Shadow the rest of the way. Then I got Raudi out. It’s a truism. The more in shape the rider, the better the horse will perform. I did some Centered Riding work on Raudi, but even having done my mind/body work, I was stiff.

She moved slowly. However, my leg and back did not go out again.

Late this afternoon Pete and I went to the hotel. He and Robert finished the shelving. Then Pete and I moved writing books and some of the older books onto the shelves.

We didn’t get any books in this weekend, which is a good thing. I need time to reduce our inventory. However, I feel a pang when I think about the books that we are no longer getting from the recycling center. They are being shredded because what else would they do with them?

I picture the books being shredded and feel a knot forming in my stomach.

It was suggested that we offer to purchase books from them, maybe pay by the pound. However, No one on the board wants to haggle with them right now.
