September 8, 2023: A good day

It was one of those days in which I thought, I am a very lucky person. I am living a life that many people dream of having. Some of this has been fate related. And some of this has been choice related.

First of all, I have no major medical issues. Right now, I have a bum ankle, but it is slowly getting better. I need one new implant, but I am no longer suffering from neuralgia. I do have bunions, but the callouses that were causing me pain have healed.

Out with the old, in with the new

I also have a most amazing mate who is kind and compassionate and puts up with my often snarky behavior. And like today, he makes breakfast.

I have three wonderful Icelandic mares who are now highly educated. This morning the sun shone for a while and I first took Hrimfara for a ride, then, Pete rode Raudi and I rode Tyra. The trails are slippery right now and the horses know it, so they moved at an even pace. I realized as I was riding them, just how much I love them all. I still of course, miss Tinni.

I now have good neighbors. Idiot boy moved on September 1 – he did not even say goodbye – he should have. It’s the closure thing you know. I did like his dog, Addy. A fellow named Jim, who has been living in Aniak, purchased the place. I did not get the name of his wife, but she sounds as neighborly as her husband. I have high hopes. They like horses and she’s an avid gardener.

I have good goats. Swampy came here out of sorts. She’s come to realize that she has nothing to be snarky about. Sassy – she wants to do great things, and I do need to give her this chance.

The hens, Ruth, Bader, and Ginsburg, I cannot tell them apart. They are, however, very good natured.

The dogs, Ryder is the border collie of my dreams and Shadow is Pete’s Shadow.

I also have a fun job. I went to town today and worked for a short while. I straightened up some and I cleaned books, all the while listening to two of the hotel residents converse. These are intelligent people. However, they have not been afforded the opportunities that I have, education or otherwise. Life has dealt them some very hard blows, for sure and they have rebounded as would spent tennis balls.

One had left a shopping cart full of books in the distribution area. She was going to put them over in her U-Haul storage unit. I could not, in good conscience let her take the books over there so I packed them in a box, put them in a corner and later told her that she could keep the books there.

I do wish I had a salary, but I am thinking that right now, that I’d rather have autonomy to do as I wish, without a board of directors telling me what to do. So yeah, now I am lucky in this respect.

Lucky, lucky, lucky me with a birthday in just a few days.
