Alys: Tyra, the geese are back.
Tyra: Yes. I saw a few flocks overhead today.
A: This is a sign of spring.
T: It doesn’t feel like spring today.
A: No, it’s cold, overcast, and blustery.
T: Earlier today it was raining and snowing.
A: I was in Anchorage; the sun came out there.
T: What were you doing there?
A: Passing out books to kids.
T: You do a lot of that kind of thing.
A: Yes. It’s gotten that way.
T: Is this why you aren’t spending as much time with us as you used to? |
Tyra north of Watson Lake on way to AK
|
A: Yes. And I feel bad about it.
T: Are we going to be doing a trip this summer?
A: We are not heading to Montana. We instead may do some in-state trips.
T: This would be fine. Where might be go?
A: I’m thinking that we’ll first go and check out the trails up north, say in Fairbanks.
T: And?
A: And then we’ll head south and check out the trails down south, say around Homer.
T: So two trips?
A: Maybe three.
T: And you’d take all three of us mares along.
A: Yes.
T: And in between trips we’d come back here.
A: Yes.
T: And maybe next year we’d do a lengthy trip outside of Alaska.
A: Yes.
T: You don’t seem thrilled about this.
A: No, I’m not. Raudi and Ryder are getting older.
T: We’re all getting older.
A: Yes, even me.
T: What becomes of the old geese?
A: I’m not sure. I think that they go into assisted living homes for geese.
T: What’s an assisted living home?
A: It’s a place where they feed you three meals a day.
T: Oh, like here.
A: Sorta. You remember Tinni?
T: Gosh, yes.
A: He was getting assisted living care here.
T: You did dote on him.
A: And I also took him for walks.
T: And he had access to water and hay and good veterinary and farrier care.
A: Now I ask you, what more does a horse need?
T: Good question.
A: So that about covers it.
T: We need to go on adventures.
A: Do Hrimmi and Raudi feel the same way?
T: Not to the degree that I do, but once they get going on a trek, they’re glad to be out and about.
A: What do you think about our getting another horse, say a gelding?
T: A great idea, if you get more pasturage.
A: Yeah, quarters are tight here.
T: And if we had more pasturage, we mares could be bred and have foals.
A: Now that’s a plan. You don’t think that Raudi is too old for this do you?
T: Time’s a wasting.
A: Yes, time is of the essence.
T: And we’d want to be pasture bred.
A: NO artificial insemination?
T: Most certainly not.
A: So we’d do this during a trip.
T: Yes.
A: Good ideas here, good ideas.
T: As always.
