October 9, 2012: Exercise Sandwich

I’m giving this dispatch this title because the day did have a sandwich-like feel to it. It began with yoga, which went well although there was a part of me that really didn’t want to get out of bed. Getting up at 6 a.m. in order to be in class at 7:15 a.m. is a killer.

And I went to Pilates in the late afternoon. I was on time, and sat waiting in the Peak Fitness exercise room – I anticipated that any minute, Lesley (my old Pilates teacher) would walk in. In fact, no one walked in. Class was to begin at 5:30, but at 5:35 I began wondering, What gives? Well, Leslie, the current instructor came bouncing in.

I immediately asked this Leslie about the other Lesley and was told that she moved to Spokane. I tried not to show that I was disappointed – after all, no one likes playing second fiddle to someone else. Then I said to myself well, change is good. This Leslie is probably as good as the other Leslie.

No other students showed up, so I got my own private lesson. It went very well, the time really flew. I was able to keep up with Leslie – there was no stopping to talk about her experiences as a New York City dancer-to-be, as there was with the other instructor. She demonstrated what to do, and explained what she was doing simultaneously. And this time, I was able to do roll ups. Because I’ve been doing a lot of heavy lifting, my back is tight. I gritted my teeth and did them, then in the end told her that this was difficult for me.

So, I will go back. As I was leaving, I ran into an exercise classmate who is now a Pilates instructor. So I’ll also take classes with her.

In between Yoga and Pilates, I worked with all the horses. (This is the sandwich part.) I was definitely more mellow than I would have been otherwise. Everyone got taken out, except for Little Hrimmi, who chose to spend her exercise time with her nose in the blue hay bucket. Going to need help leading her. She’s a little chow hound.

Didn’t rain, in fact the sun came out for a bit. I hope for the same tomorrow. Would like a few weeks before the next freeze-up occurs.
