Trip Dispatch #57: Thursday, July 14: The Trail’s End

After considerable discussion Pete and I decided to call it good for this year once we reached Vail. Home and work responsibilities impinge. Our subsequent plans were based on this decision. Pete decided to take the Greyhound bus to Gulnare where he’ll pick up the trailer. We’ll head to Leadville upon his return. We’re planning on taking our time on the trip home, doing day rides along the way. Another reason for going slow—we’ll be taking three horses north in our two horse trailer. Yes, we’ve also decided to purchase Signy. Next year, we’ll pick up where we left off, and resume heading in a northerly direction.

On the way home we did lots of day rides. Signy enjoyed being ponied without her pack. We stopped in Butte, MT and visited old friends and took care of the horses’ paperwork and Coggin’s test.

Post Script: When we arrived at Andrea’s Signy was tied up and separated from the mare’s heard because she had broken out of the mare’s pasture and had gotten in with the stallions. Well, it looks like a Signy Junior will be due around April 20th. Dr. Wellington could reach in and feel the fetus, but he was unable to determine the sex or the color.
