We headed up the dirt road leading up to Cordova Pass, stopping every so often to let the horses graze. It was sunny, windy, and cold at the top. Pat (Pete’s brother) had been right in remarking that this wouldn’t be a fun place to camp. We walked the horses downhill, difficult because Raudi was rushy. She doesn’t yet have the rear muscles needed in order to move slowly. We came to the intersection of Rte. 12 and Cordova Pass Road at Cucharas Pass. We set up camp before the turnoff on the edge of Forest Service land. We’d been wondering what we’d do about water. We got lucky. There was a nearby stock tank. We let the horses drink from it, and filtered our drinking water.
