March 2, 2021: And

A good word, and. Spent considerable time tonight attempting to come up with a title for this very dispatch. I just stood at my computer, staring out into space. I finally came up with “And Away We Go,” but then I couldn’t think of who we was, or where we would go. It’s now ridiculously difficult to get out of this state because the Canadians are rightfully giving us our just due. We Americans think we own the world and are not considerate of those in neighboring countries, both Mexico and Canada included. So, Canada has created a wall of sorts – US travelers have to go from north to south or south to north in a specified amount of time.

The snow is piling up

I would love to do an in-state road trip, say, go north to Fairbanks or south to Homer, but now is not the time. Winter chores take twice as much time as usual and all would be in Pete’s hands, including, perhaps, the birth of baby goats.

What brought the in-state road trip to mind is that this morning, two friends who live in Anchorage and were road tripping dropped by for a morning visit. I met Laura when I was taking the Bones for Life course and in fact stayed at her place. Her sister Christine was visiting, so they were checking out the sights.

We were eating a late breakfast when they arrived. We finished and they drank tea. The sun was shining brightly, so I suggested we take the mares for a walk, to which they agreed. I wasn’t worried about they not being able to handle the ponies – both grew up on a farm. They also are high school coaches and have very good take charge attitudes.

I figured a three-horse outing would be good for the mares, particularly since they’d be handled by differing people. They all did well – Hrimmi stopped quite often. I gave the neighborhood tour as we walked along. This time of year, it’s evident as to who has their act together and who does not. Most do not. We didn’t meet up with anyone.

After the walk, Laura and Christine had to be on their way. Too bad because I would have liked to spend more time with them. It was also Tuesday, book sorting day, so I also had to get a move on.

It went well at the Meeting House. Nan, Lois, and I got 10 boxes of books ready to send on the Nunwalek. Nan and I also had a quasi-meeting and talked about suggesting to the Palmer Valley Arts Alliance that they have a public art event – this will consist of asking area artists to design bookends, which will then be featured at a silent auction. We’ll talk with the members of this organization on Thursday.

So, there are now three projects in the works – bookend art, bookends for kids, the two little library projects, and the book carousel project. I feel like this is the calm before the storm. I should be careful what I wish for. And – so forth.

Next: 62. 3/3/21: A Darn Good Day
