October 31, 2021: October 32, 2021

I think that I’ve found a solution to the problem of there not being enough hours in a day. We simply need to add an additional day to each month of the year. We can do this and dispense with daylight savings time. This way, we will have an extra day a month to finish unfinished business.

And it will work well, having this day at the month’s end because this is usually when we are all in a rush to complete neglected tasks. The end of the month thing is psychological. But extra time, in the form of a day, this will be a real boon.

Raudi backing through the tunnel

I thought about this today as I was finishing setting up the October horse agility course. I had it three-quarters finished. I didn’t have the time to do much this past month, and in fact was going to bypass having Pete make the October videos. I told him this and he said that if I wished, we could do the videos.

Pete didn’t have the time to do this. He is far busier than I am. After all, he has a full-time job. I have a full-time pseudo job. But in the end, he was the motivator.

When I told him that one of the obstacles was a tunnel, I could see the gears in his head start to turn. I later asked, and I determined that I was right – he was attempting to figure out how to construct it. He thrives on building problem solving. Me, not so much so, but I do enjoy watching his ideas come to fruition.

We decided at midday to determine whether or not we should go ahead with this endeavor, weather permitting. I first took Tinni on an outing and then rode Hrimmi on the trails. It was 1:00 p.m. when I got back. It was overcast but not raining.

Pete got his tools together and scrounged up poles and 2x4s. I put the wraps on the curtain, tied the fun noodles to the poles, put objects all around the scary corner, and laid out treats on the targets.

By then it was close to 3:00 p.m. I first put Hrimmi through her paces. She had a hard time backing through the zig zag, but otherwise did just fine. Raudi and Tyra encountered the same difficulties. Tyra had the hardest time of all.

It occurred to me, as the mares were nosing around for treats, that dog agility is far less challenging. Dogs do go off course, and do nose around for treats, but overall, they show far more enthusiasm for the task at hand than do horses.

We finished around 4:30 p.m. and Pete then posted all the videos. They are not indicative of our best effort, but hey, we got it done, which was an accomplishment in and of itself.

And if we’d had another day, we most likely would have done as we did today and put off doing agility until the near last minute.

The November course will be online tomorrow. I am going to get it set up fairly soon because there won’t be a November 31st.
